Kom El Shoqafa Catacombs
Continue to Saqqara, home of the Step Pyramid of King Djoser, the first pyramid ever built and the earliest large-scale stone structure in human history. The complex showcases the beginnings of pyramid architecture and includes tombs decorated with vibrant scenes of ancient Egyptian life.
Pompey’s Pillar
Continue to Pompey’s Pillar, a massive red granite column standing nearly 30 meters high—the tallest of its kind outside Rome.
It was built in honor of Emperor Diocletian and once stood inside the ancient Serapeum, Alexandria’s grand temple.
The site includes remains of sphinx statues and reveals the architectural grandeur of Roman Alexandria.
